Pepper Lunching again at Baywalk

At first it was only their DIY teppan. Then came the curry rice. I don’t know what it is about the Japanese, but obviously, I love their idea of fast food service.

No wonder there are hundreds of these fast-service outlets in Japan alone, not to mention how they’re becoming a rife throughout Asia.

If you’re a picky eater like me, there’s really nothing quite like Pepper Lunch, especially when you’re short on time. It’s just amazing how they managed to keep up with both their quality and service even when the franchise has opened up in dozens of locations all over the city.

Launched just months ago (on 30 November 2013), this new Pepper Lunch outlet easily became my most favorite one of all. Baywalk Mall happens to be Jakarta’s first oceanside commercial center, and the outlet here offers a spectacular view of the blue horizons as you’re enjoying your steaks. I suggest soaking in the breeze while you can, because those views are going to be gone by 2015. In case you haven’t seen the boards around the Pluit ‘hoods, Agung Podomoro’s reclaiming lands right by the Green Bay area to establish new developments that will become part of the larger Pluit City.

Anyway, let’s go back to food.

10 had one of their premium steak dishes, the Double Hamburg Steak (in brown sauce) with Egg (IDR 75,455). It was a well-proportioned meal (and yes, that’s how picky I am).

DSC01436I hate to say this, but most affordable chains tend to be stingy with the meats, which should’ve covered a larger portion on the plate, because we all know the meats are the essence of the dish.

But in this case, neither the portion of the veggies nor of the rice overwhelms the size of the steaks.

The fair servings of each food group made for the huge space in my heart for Pepper Lunch, not to mention that we were on a hurry to catch a movie. I mean, who wants to be bloated and burp constantly (from a regular burger and coke) while you’re in the theaters? Balance is truly key.

I indulged in one of their sizzling curry rice dishes, Curry Rice with Chicken & Mushroom (IDR 60.909), with extra cheese (+ IDR 2,727) and extra egg (+ IDR 4,545). ‘Cause who actually gets enough of dairy?

Yet another balanced meal, with slightly more than enough curry sauce to drench the whole rice and a lot more extra cheese than I expected.

The chicken cutlets and mushrooms were pure juiciness, and the rice was phenomenal. It was ultra-soft, ultra-delicate, and retains the curry sauce like a sponge. All that was even before I mixed in ALL of that extra cheese and the sweltry egg, which made the whole mixture turned into gooey chunks of scrumptiousness.

What more can I say? The pictures practically said it all.
