Loving lately: Pink lips

The last time we spoke about lips, it’s revealed that I completely turned into a lipstick wearer because of Tay. I only fell in love with her since 1989, but because of the crazy-good album I dug her past and really fell in love with her.

So yes, lipsticks.

I’m into pinks right now. Think Pink Panther meets Victoria’s Secret shopping bags. I realized it’s kind of tricky to pull off a pink lip, because sometimes when you dab too much blush or put on cool-toned eyeshadow, you look way older than you’d like to be. But get the right color for your skin tone, and you don’t really need much of anything other than a breezy swoosh of an eyeliner to perfect the pink lip look.

Maybelline Watershine Pure P22 Apricot Creme

This is my everyday lip of choice if I just want to freshen up my look. What led me to grab it across Guardian’s isle was its water-based design, hence the line’s label ‘Watershine’. Apparently, this hydrating formula consists of “micro-droplets of water that gives moisture and mirror shine”. I didn’t get to jot down the ingredients on the package, so I can’t really go all analytical about the claims. But here’s the verdict: It’s hydrating … for only 3 hours tops. Since the shade is a beautiful pump to my natural lip color, I don’t have to complain about except that it wears easily and so you need to constantly re-apply. It’s got a sheer coverage, a subtle tint, and a slight glossy finish – also looks pretty natural when you’re wearing minimal makeup.

NYX Round Lipstick LSS640 Fig

Now this one I just LOVE. Not so much for its shade (Fig: ‘Dark neutral pink‘), but for its super lasting pigment and super creamy, almost opaque finish. It’s a “mineral-based emollient formula” that gives you “a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color, and it resists wear and smudging.” Now I’m here to testify that all these claims are 100% true. But for a “dark neutral pink” shade, it’s not exactly “neutral” … it’s more like a mix-breed of mauve and bubblegum, although that saturation really pops against Asian skin (and probably will against Hispanic and African-American skins too).

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine 55 Romance

Judging from how little I have left of this lipstick, it’s def my favorite to add a just touch of brightness and for all-day plumpness. It’s formulated with “intensified pigments to take color and sheen to a new level of vibrancy,” and I love this shade in 55 Romance for a couple of reasons: it enhances my natural lip color as well as it does give my lips a little pigment. It’s sheer coverage, yet shiny and oh so chic (and this one definitely lasts much longer than the ‘Watershine’). I wear this whenever I’m wearing white – the modest tinge against pale colors made healthy look effortless.

L’Oreal Color Riche M401 My First Pink

With this drugstore lipstick, you can clearly see its glimmering bluish undertones, and it usually perks up your look for going out at night. The a slightly muted magenta is the perfect cross between sweet and sexy (I can usually rock this lip with any color of clothes on), although I’m not such a big fan of the matte finish. After a while (between 2-4 hours), my lips feel super dry. The nice thing is that the hue sticks quite well even after I’ve eaten and/or drank.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture 07 Le Fuchsia

I love LoVe LOVE LOVE this one for the same reasons I love the Fig NYX Round Lipstick, but also because this fuchsia sticks so darn well all day long, even after I lick, eat, drink, smooch, and salivate (seriously), not to mention how ultra-intense and hyper-pigmented it is, plus the pretty satin finish. Apparently I have to thank “the Coloreveal Technology” and some “natural extracts” that provide “comforting moisture that lasts all day”, but I always get a major instant uplift with just a few coats of this vibrance. All in all, the whole Rouge Pur Couture line is just so identifiable from afar and prettier up close that I think no girl deserves to not own one.
